Concrete Slab & Footer Pour in Jacksonville, FL
Project Overview
Residential Concrete poured a brand-new monolithic slab and footer foundation for a building project in Jacksonville, FL. The homeowner needed a structurally sound base, just over 1,200 square feet, with a continuous footer running the full perimeter to support the new building. Our crew handled layout, forming, and the pour from start to finish.
The Problem
- Vacant, unimproved lot with no existing foundation on site
- Ground needed to be cleared and graded level before forms could go in
- Building required a true continuous perimeter footer, not just a flat slab, to carry the structural load
- The roughly 30' x 40' footprint had to be squared up precisely before forming could begin
Our Process: Concrete Slab Installation
- Cleared and graded the site to establish a level, compact base for the pour
- Laid out and squared the 30'7" x 40'7" footprint using batter boards and string lines so every corner came in true
- Excavated and formed a continuous 12"x12" perimeter footer. A proper footer like this carries the building's structural load and helps resist settling around the edges over time
- Set and braced form boards around the entire perimeter to hold their line and grade through the pour
- Installed rebar reinforcement through the footer and tied it into the slab area for added strength
- Laid a 6-mil poly vapor barrier under the slab to keep ground moisture from wicking up through the concrete after it cures
- Poured and consolidated the concrete in one continuous monolithic pour, tying the footer and slab together as a single structural unit instead of two separate pours. That eliminates a cold joint at the base of the wall, which is a common weak point in slabs poured in stages
- Screeded and floated the slab to a flat, uniform 6-inch thickness across the entire footprint
- Formed a slightly raised lip along the finished perimeter edge, giving the building's wall track a clean bearing surface and helping direct water away from the slab
Materials Used
- High-strength ready-mix concrete
- Rebar reinforcement tied through the footer and slab
- 6-mil poly vapor barrier
- Engineered 12"x12" continuous perimeter footer
Results
- A level, structurally sound foundation just over 1,200 square feet, ready for building construction
- Continuous footer support around the full perimeter for long-term stability
- A clean, uniform slab finish across the entire pour
- A raised perimeter lip that helps direct water away from the finished edge
