Project Overview

Residential Concrete completed a full pool deck restoration for a homeowner in the St. Johns area of Northeast Florida. The scope included pressure washing, crack patching across the main deck, full resurfacing of the entry step section, and sealing the entire surface with ICT ColorSeal H2O Pro.

The Problem

• Multiple cracks running across the main deck surface, including a significant crack near the base of the entry steps
• Cracked and deteriorating corners on the entry steps, with surface breakdown beyond what patching alone could address
• Worn, discolored concrete in need of deep cleaning before any sealer could be applied
• Existing sealer had failed, leaving the deck unprotected against UV exposure and pool water intrusion

Our Process: Pool Deck Resurfacing

• Pressure washed the entire pool deck to remove dirt, algae, and surface contaminants — thorough cleaning is critical because any residue left on the surface will prevent patching compounds and sealers from bonding correctly
• Inspected and marked all crack locations across the main deck and step sections before beginning repairs
• Applied concrete patching compound to all cracks on the main deck surface, tooling each repair flush and blending the texture with the surrounding concrete
• Fully resurfaced the entry step section where surface deterioration had progressed to the point that patching alone would not produce a lasting or uniform result
• Allowed all patched and resurfaced areas to fully cure before proceeding — rushing this step would compromise sealer adhesion and the long-term integrity of the repair
• Applied ICT ColorSeal H2O Pro to the entire deck, steps, and coping edges in multiple passes to ensure even penetration, consistent coverage, and a uniform finish
• Performed a final inspection of all repaired crack lines and sealed surfaces before wrapping up

Materials Used

• ICT ColorSeal H2O Pro — water-based penetrating sealer applied across the full deck surface, steps, and coping edges
• Concrete patching compound — used to fill, level, and surface-blend all cracks prior to sealing
