Pool Deck Crack Repair & Sealing in St. Augustine, FL
Project Overview
Residential Concrete completed a pool deck crack repair and full reseal at a home in St. Augustine, FL. The deck had developed significant structural cracking — severe enough that the homeowner had Alpha Foundations lift and re-level the slab before our work began. Once the slab was stabilized, we came in to fill the cracks, clean the surface, and apply a fresh coat of sealer to restore both the appearance and the protection of the deck.
The Problem
- Multiple large cracks had developed across the deck surface and along the coping edge, some wide enough to require backer rod before filling
- The slab had shifted enough that a foundation company needed to jack and re-level it prior to any concrete repair work
- The existing sealer was worn away, leaving the concrete unprotected against pool splash, rain, and the intense UV exposure common in the St. Augustine area
- The cracked, faded surface posed a trip hazard near the pool edge and left the deck looking worn and neglected
Our Process: Pool Deck Services
- Inspected the full pool deck following Alpha Foundations' slab lifting to identify all cracks requiring repair
- Used a STIHL blower to thoroughly clear debris, dust, and loose concrete from inside every crack — removing loose material is critical because anything left behind will prevent the filler from bonding correctly and cause it to fail prematurely
- Pressure washed the entire pool deck to strip away dirt, algae, and surface contaminants, ensuring a clean substrate for both the crack filler and the sealer topcoat
- Installed polyurethane backer rod into the widest, deepest cracks before filling — backer rod controls fill depth and prevents the filler from bonding at the bottom of the crack, which allows it to flex with normal concrete movement rather than re-cracking under seasonal expansion and contraction
- Applied flexible concrete crack filler along all repaired areas, tooling it flush with the surrounding deck surface
- Washed the pool screen enclosure as part of the overall job scope
- Allowed all crack repairs to fully cure before beginning the sealer application
- Applied a fresh coat of Sealer across the entire pool deck, restoring the original color and providing a durable, UV-resistant protective layer
Materials Used
- Sealer — water-based acrylic color sealer formulated for pool deck surfaces
- Polyurethane backer rod — installed in wider cracks to control fill depth and allow the filler to flex with the concrete
- Flexible concrete crack filler — paintable formula compatible with the ICT ColorSeal topcoat
Results
- Cracks are filled, stable, and significantly less visible now that the deck carries a uniform color coat
- The full deck surface is sealed and protected against UV, chlorine splash, moisture, and the heat cycles that break down unprotected concrete in Northeast Florida
- The screen enclosure is clean, and the overall backyard presents like a well-maintained, move-in-ready outdoor space
- A major structural problem — one that required a foundation company — now reads as a clean, functional pool deck thanks to professional crack repair and resealing
